Qantas Premium Economy Added to Lufthansa RTW
The Lufthansa premium economy round the world airfare is our most popular premium economy deal delivering unbelievable value over a huge variety of 3 continent routing options. The fares continue to develop with Lufthansa now contracting with Qantas across the Atlantic and Africa. Previously, Qantas only on-sold their coveted premium economy seats to Lufthansa on Asian routes where they have less connecting options now that they are aligned with Emirates to Europe via Dubai. Now, Qantas premium economy is available between the following cities…
- Asia: Sydney – Hong Kong. Sydney – Tokyo
- Africa: Sydney – Johannesburg
- North America [additional $1200 compared to Air NZ pricing]: Melbourne/Brisbane/Sydney – LA, Sydney – Dallas, Sydney-NYC [via LA] & Sydney – San Francisco.
- South America: Santiago, seperate connecting flights required to meet a Lufthansa gateway.
Not in Sydney? Lufthansa will include a domestic flight sector on Qantas from most major cities. Whilst there is a $1200 premium compared to flying on Air New Zealand across the Pacific, for Qantas frequent flyers or travellers to Santiago, Dallas or NYC this could be a great option saving additional costs from one of the Air New Zealand ports of LA, San Francisco, Houston, Buenos Aires or Vancouver. An example route could be…
Sydney – NYC, via LA [Qantas]
NYC – Frankfurt or Munich [Lufthansa]
Optional European sidetrip
Frankfurt or Munich – Tokyo or Hong Kong [Lufthansa]
Tokyo or Hong Kong – Sydney [Qantas]
With pricing coming in at around $5000 to combine Qantas and Lufthansa there is still a significant saving compared to a Qantas/British Airways combination which can be up around $6500-7000 in premium economy depending on the season. Lufthansa’s fares are non-seasonal and just subject to availability so advanced booking is always recommended with premium economy having only a few seats on each aircraft.
Qantas is also an option on this fare by downgrading to economy class between Australia and Asia. This will save around $350 per person compared to the regular premium economy rates and opens up the additional routes of Singapore, Bangkok and Shanghai.
