Newark to unveil a new $2.7billion Terminal A

New Jersey’s Newark Airport is soon to open their brand new $2.7billion Terminal A. 

The largest single investment in New Jersey by the Port Authority has been in the works since 2018 and has been hailed by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy as ‘modern, bright, comfortable, expressive and frankly extraordinary’.

The new facility will be more than 1 million square feet in size and will have a range of impressive improvements compared with the current outdated Terminal A. The new terminal will have a centralised check-in hall that will be capable of handling the expected 14 million passengers through Newark each year. It will also feature six check-in piers for the main 4 airline operators, Air Canada, American Airlines, JetBlue Airways and United Airlines, while the 4 lane roadway will have curbside check-in desks for convenience. Further improvements to make life smoother for passengers include check-in kiosks with facial recognition, 30 new transportation security administration checkpoints and six baggage claims.

While waiting for your flight to board, you can relax in one of three airline lounges on the mezzanine level of the Central Plaza, American Admirals Club, Delta Sky Club and United Club. Further into the terminal you’ll find the Signature American Express Centurion Lounge featuring a piano lounge, jazz themed bar and speakeasy themed cocktail lounge will new amenities soon to join including a wellness room, workstations and multiple food buffets. 

Experience the culture of New Jersey with a range of local artwork featured from 29 local artists including the ‘Forests of Firsts’, a group of digital pylons in Central Plaza to highlight first achievements of New Jersey. The new terminal also feature a kids play area to keep those little ones entertained and floor to ceiling windows throughout with impressive views across the tarmac.

Phase 1 of the new terminal will open on December 8, with the final flight operating from the old terminal the day prior. Once the second phase is complete in 2023, there will be a total of 33 new gates and Terminal A will be connected post security to Terminals B & C via an airside shuttle bus. The second phase will also allow space for Delta Airlines to move into the new terminal.
