SWISS reveals new flagship B777

Last month SWISS announced that January 2016 will herald a new era in the history of its long-haul aircraft, with the arrival of the first of its nine new Boeing 777-300ER’s.  The aircraft have been configured to seat 340 passengers and offer state-of-the-art features in all three cabin classes, including wireless internet.  The B777’s will be deployed on routes out of SWISS’ hub-city of Zurich to Asia, South America and the West Coast of the USA.

The 340 seats will be divided into eight First Class, 62 Business Class and 270 Economy and the cabin-interior is designed to meet the most discerning of standards in all three spaces.

The First seat transforms into the occupant’s own private suite that includes a 32-inch screen (the largest in the industry), electrically-adjustable window blinds and their own personal wardrobe.

Business Class passengers will enjoy optimum privacy and freedom of movement, while the seat cushion’s firmness can be adjusted to suit.  The seat easily converts into a lie-flat bed that is over two metres long.

In Economy Class travellers can look forward to new seat-comfort technology and a larger personal touchscreen.  Outside the regular cabin service, all SWISS Economy guests will be able to take advantage of a self-serve kiosk with a wide range of drinks and snacks, very similar to the popular offering on Qantas’ A380’s.

“With our new Boeing 777-300ERs we will be setting new benchmarks in terms of our guests’ overall comfort and travel experience,” says SWISS CEO Harry Hohmeister. “And on top of that, with their state-of-the-art engines, our new twinjets will give us substantial savings in fuel consumption and carbon emissions terms.”

SWISS believes the B777 is the ideal aircraft to serve their farthest destinations non-stop from Switzerland.  The new aircraft will be routed primarily on services to Hong Kong, Bangkok and Los Angeles, with San Francisco, Sao Paulo and Tel Aviv also receiving the service several times each week.

The new aircraft will replace the slightly older A340 members of SWISS’ fleet with six to be retired and three others re-deployed to their sister carrier Edelweiss.
