Itinerary Of The Week – Virgin RTW $1493

The new Virgin Australia/Virgin Atlantic round the world airfares have been a hot topic in the RoundAbout Travel office since they were launched a couple of months ago.

The new fares are extremely popular, and at such low prices they’re being snapped up left, right and centre. This itinerary, which Airfare Consultant Michelle put together for a client, is for travel during September and October and includes domestic flights from Adelaide to Melbourne for a total of $1493 per person including taxes.

These fares are currently on sale until June 15th so there’s still time to secure one for yourself and get your trip booked.

We’ve put together some suggestions on what to do in LA, London and Hong Kong this September.

3 Days in LA

The height of summer is over but with an average temperature in the high 20s and very little chance of rain, September in LA leaves plenty of time for visits to the beach and warm evenings outdoors.

Laguna Beach
Sunbathe on the beach, explore rocky tidepools, eat gelato and stroll through the many shops, galleries and restaurants.

Wine Tasting
Napa may be too far for a short visit, but Temecula is within easy day trip distance. There are over 30 wineries to explore, travel between them at your own pace if you have a designated driver, or alternatively join a guided tour. The more adventurous can enjoy an afternoon hot air balloon ride with views over the vineyards.

Take a Hike
Act like a local and take a hike through LA’s famous hills. Head to Griffith Park Observatory and walk The Mount Hollywood Trail to walk directly behind the iconic Hollywood sign (the closest you can get).

September in England

Take a stadium tour
For the sports fans, most of London’s iconic stadiums are available to tour. Wembley, Chelsea, Arsenal, Twickenham, the Wimbledon Tennis Museum and Lord’s Cricket Ground amongst them.

Explore London’s Iconic Markets
Traditions of market shopping in London goes back centuries. Explore famous markets such as brick Lane Markets, Spitalfields, Portobello road, and Leadenhall for food, fashion and antique gems.

Visit The Queen
Call past Buckingham Palace and say hello to the Queen. Arrive in the morning for a good view of the Changing the Guard ceremony at 10:45am (check online for the schedule first, the ceremony is cancelled during wet weather.) Buckingham Palace is open to the public throughout September, with tickets to view the state rooms and gardens available to purchase.

Step Back In Time
Britain is covered in historic houses, with most of them open (for a fee) to explore. Lose yourself in the expansive gardens, marvel at the ancient architecture, and act out your favourite Downton Abbey/Pride and Prejudice/Harry Potter scenes in the grand halls and sweeping drawing rooms.

Catch A Show
Head to London’s Theatre Land and take your pick of a variety of shows with some of the biggest names holding residence for years. Catch one of the newest productions including Book of Mormon or Kinky Boots, or enjoy a classic such as Les Mis or the Lion King.

Stopover in Hong Kong

The energy is high in Hong Kong with 7 million residents and plenty to see and do.

View The City
Take the cable car to Victoria’s Peak for the best view of the city. The Cable car is the steepest in the world, taking you 330 metres above sea level in 7 minutes. From the top you’ll see Kowloon, Hong Kong Island, Victoria Harbour and on a clear day Kowloon’s 8 mountains.

Eat Dim Sum
There are endless options to enjoy dim sum in Hong Kong from the traditional outlets to high end fusion options. For the best, head to Tim Ho Wan for Michelin starred dim sum – known as the cheapest Michelin starred restaurant in the world.

Visit A Temple
Step out of the fast paced modern day Hong Kong and visit an historic temple. For the most dazzling experience head to the Ten Thousand Buddahs Monastery where 500 life size golden Buddhas adorn 400 steps up to the temple.
