United Airlines Australia Expansion Plans
United Airlines Adding 40% More Flights Between Australia (And NZ) And The US
United Airlines has recently announced its largest expansion plan in Australian history, with a focus on increasing the number of flights between Australia and New Zealand to the United States. The United Airlines Australia expansion will see a significant boost to the travel industry, which is starting to recover from the pandemic.
A Brief Outline Of Their Service Expansion
As part of the expansion plan, United Airlines will add 40% more flights between Australia and New Zealand and the United States. This includes the addition of a new non-stop flight from Melbourne to Los Angeles, of which will begin operating from 28 October 2023. United will also be moving to daily flights between Melbourne and San Francisco using a Boeing 777-300ER.
Greater Seat Capacity
The increased number of flights is a response to the growing demand for travel between Australia and the US. Starting November 29, 2023, the Star Alliance member will offer daily flights between Brisbane and San Francisco using 787-9 Dreamliners, up from three times a week, while as of October 28, 2023, Sydney to San Francisco will fly twice daily on 777-300ERs.
The carrier change from the 787-9 to the 777-300ER on the Melbourne to San Francisco service will also add almost 100 extra seats to each departure, representing a capacity increase over the Boeing 787-9 used previously.
United Airlines Committed To Expanding Its Presence In Australia And New Zealand
In a statement, United Airlines’ Vice President of International Network and Alliances, Patrick Quayle, said, “As the world continues to recover from the pandemic, we are seeing strong demand for travel to Australia and New Zealand. We are excited to offer our customers more options to fly to these destinations and explore the beautiful countries on the other side of the world.”
The expansion will see United serve more destinations in the region than all other American carriers combined, providing a generous boost and allowing a rebuild of the international visitor economy of both Australia and New Zealand.
Air Canada To Also Increase Frequency On Brisbane To Vancouver
Air Canada has announced it will boost capacity on its Brisbane and Sydney to Vancouver flights during the 2023/24 northern Winter season to meet rising demand.
Replacing its current B787-9 Dreamliner service with its larger B777-300ER aircraft will accommodate 400 seats, compared to the previous 298.
We will see capacity grow by 34% with flights also increasing from Brisbane to Vancouver from five times per week to a daily service from December to March.
Due to increased capacity, we see great opportunity to take advantage of Star Alliance round the world airfares.
